Choosing a platform for a UAE store
Shopify suits most direct-to-consumer brands that want hosting and security handled. WooCommerce suits companies already invested in WordPress content. Magento, now Adobe Commerce, suits large catalogues and B2B pricing, at a higher running cost. Custom builds make sense for marketplaces and unusual business models.
The platform matters less than the operations around it. A store that cannot sync stock with Amazon.ae, Noon or the warehouse will oversell, and refunds will eat the margin.
Payments, VAT and returns
UAE shoppers mix cards, wallets, instalment plans and cash on delivery. Each method changes how payments are reconciled, so ask how the store will match payouts, courier remittances and refunds in your accounting.
Prices shown with 5% VAT, compliant tax invoices and a clear returns flow are basic requirements. Make sure they are in the scope, not left for later.
What does an e-commerce website cost in the UAE?
From a few weeks of work on a hosted platform to many months for a marketplace. Add platform fees, apps, payment fees and maintenance to the build.
Which payment methods do UAE shoppers expect?
Cards, Apple Pay, instalment plans from providers such as Tabby and Tamara, and often cash on delivery.
Should I sell on Amazon.ae and Noon as well as my own store?
Many brands do both. It raises the importance of stock and order sync between channels.
Do I need an Arabic version of my store?
For a broad UAE and Gulf audience, an Arabic storefront usually improves conversion. Plan it in the theme from the start.
How long does it take to launch an online store?
A store on a hosted platform with a modest catalogue can launch in weeks; integrations with ERPs and marketplaces add time.
